Golden Retriever Training For Puppies And Adult Dogs

If you have recently brought home a Golden Retriever puppy, you may be interested in information on training a golden retriever and house training a puppy. And, because Goldens shed fairly heavily all year round, you may also want some tips on how to stop a dog from shedding.

Hottest Golden Retriever Training Tips

Let us begin with the essentials about Golden Retriever dog training. Goldens are one of the smartest dog breeds and tend to be very loyal and easy to train. They are good with children and friendly toward strangers. A Golden probably won’t be the best at protecting your house, although some people are scared away just by their size. Because of their enthusiasm and friendliness, it is not difficult to understand why Golden Retrievers are the 4th most popular dog in the world. Golden Retriever Puppy House Training Tips

The most important thing to remember when house training puppies is not to punish them for having accidents in the house. Keep in mind that baby dogs, like baby people, need to void their bowels and bladder a lot more frequently than adults. Your puppy will likely need to be taken outside to go potty at least once every couple of hours for the first few months. If you catch your pup in the act of “making” in the house, said “OUTSIDE” fairly loudly in order to disrupt what they are doing. Immediately take them outside and reward them with praise or a treat if they finish their business in the proper place.  They may have already finished their business inside.  That’s ok. Don’t spank them for “not going.” Punishing your Golden Retriever pup will confuse them and it won’t do anything to help dissuade them from going potty inside.

Best Ways to Stop a Dog from Shedding

If you have a golden, you may also be interested in learning how to stop shedding. Brushing your Golden Retriever puppy not only helps to catch that pesky fur before it ends up on your furniture, but it also helps train your puppy to accept, (and possibly even enjoy), grooming. An excellent way to stop dog shedding that many people don’t even consider is to give your puppy frequent baths. This will help get rid of some of that hair. Using a tape roller or other device to remove pet hair from your furniture as soon as possible helps prevent it from getting stuck in the upholstery.
