Choosing the right crate size is the first thing you need to learn when crate training your dog. Multiple sizes are available for excellent reasons.   Even though your first instinct may be to give your dog a large sized crate so that it has room to relax, which is the last thing you want to do. Unless you have a large dog it may be easy. The idea is to get a crate that is tall enough so that the dog will not bump its head and long enough to where it can stand up and do a little turn around. It’s pointless to get a crate that’s too big.

If you keep your dog in a crate that’s too large, it will never be housebroken because it can easily go to the bathroom on one end and lie down on the other end. If your dog gets cut, it might get infections, and you don’t want that. Training a dog must also consider its safety as a top priority in order to be sure that you are doing your job properly.

Making your dog feel anxious and upset about the crate is not the proper way to train them. You want to create a comfort zone or a den like home with a crate.
