Prevent Dog From Jumping
It’s nice to have your dog greeting you home with his tail wagging with enthusiasm. But, it’s also very annoying when your dog is jumping up on you or a guest coming to you home. There are several steps you can do to prevent your dog from jumping up.
Stop Jumping
Sometimes it’s okay when your dog jumps on you. But, it would be better for him to jump up on command. Especially, when some guests in your house wouldn’t want a dogs attention in this way. Here are a few things to help eliminate this problem.
Pay Him No Mind
When your dog does his jumping up thing just keep right on moving and ignore him. When he jumps up, and gets any kind of attention for it then he thinks it’s allowed. Ask your dog to sit first, then pet him. To get him to rethink about jumping up, you need to give your attention only when he’s sitting. So spice things up a little with a little sit here and a little “you don’t exist there
Creating A Command
A good way to stop your dog from jumping, it by voicing a command. Any command that your dog knows as get down. This command is to be used when your dog jumps up on either furniture or a person. This command will be understood as the off command.
When your dog jumps up there is another training technique that you can use. Say the word off and bend your knee up and into your dogs chest, this will push him off. This way the dog associates the command with the action together. The dog might not understand the command right away, but with a little practice he’ll get it. As with all commands it will take consistency from the leader to help eliminate this bad behavior.
Apporpriate Behavior And Rewards
Once your dog starts to learn not to jump up, lavish him with a lot of praise and treats. He will start to understand that he will still be praised, even if he doesn’t jump up. Your pet will soon learn that sitting and not jumping will bring him praise.
Jumping up is a simple habit to break, even if your dog has been jumping up for a long time. Always, ignore bad behavior, reward the good and be consistent in your training. Teaching your dog some simple obedience training will make you a proud owner and you can welcome guests to your house without fear.
