Pick a consistent phrase to use with your puppy while house training. Use the same word or phrase each time you bring him out to go to the bathroom so that he understands what you want him to do and makes a memory link between the phrase and the act.

Crate training is an effective way to house train a dog. Take your dog outside frequently and try to maintain a regular schedule in order to maximize the effectiveness of the crate. With a little patience, crate training can make a dog very unlikely to make a mess in the house.

While it is possible to train many types of dogs together, depending on their personality, it may be impossible if you have two dogs. However, if your dogs distract each other while training, try training each one separately first, then work with them together.

It is important to get your dog trained to walk nicely on his leash. This is both for the dog’s safety and your own, as well.

You can easily reinforce good behavior by using a clicker. All you should do is create an association between good things and the fun noise of the clicker. Attempt to click and treat immediately and do this several times for a few days. Soon enough, your dog will recognize that this noise means “great,” turning the clicker into a useful tool for shaping desirable behavior.

Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. If you try to focus for a long period of time on one command, your dog will show signs of boredom and begin to get antsy. Only spend 10 minutes during the first couple of sessions.

To help you train your dog you should know what kinds of foods your dog likes to eat. Your dog will work harder to get the food that he/she loves so much. Look at his response after you give him the food.

Dogs should be spayed or neutered around the age of six months. This is also a good time to begin obedience training classes. Pets that have been spayed or neutered are often more obedient. Your dog will be a better companion after training and this will lead to a better life overall for the animal.

If you know there are certain things that trigger a bad response from your dog, try and keep his attention whenever these things come up. In other words, if your dog does not like other dogs, you should keep him busy and entertained as you pass other dogs on your walks. You will see that your dog will have a better relationship with other dogs if you do this.

It is important for dog owners to realize that training no longer has to be a battle. Proper knowledge and consistent follow through is the key to successful training. A dog will become an even better pet thanks to the owner’s patience and training.
