Training a new puppy can be much easier if everyone in the the family participates in the training. It may be easier for one person to work with the dog until he has mastered basic commands. However, the dog should respond to the same commands when given by any member of the family.

Alternatively stated, when your pet dislikes the company of other animals, try to distract him or her whenever you encounter them out in the neighborhood. That way, the dog will start to associate good or interesting things with seeing animals that would have upset him or her in the past.

A dog has an inquiring mind and will look at one thing for quite a while until its attention is broken. With enough repetition, your dog will focus on other things less and less, opting to wait for signals from you.

You should start training your dog at an early age. Training it as a puppy is the best time to do so. Although younger dogs tend to respond to discipline and training more thoroughly, it is still possible to teach an older dog to behave. It is important to start training with your dog when it is still a puppy. This will give it the guidance it needs to grow up to be a well-behaved dog.

Over-training your puppy will expose it to too much at once, rendering the training less effective. Puppies have short attention spans and don’t focus well, so make sure to keep your training sessions short, but as positive as you can. Your puppy will happier with the experience, and less resistant to your future efforts. He will be looking forward to them instead.

Don’t allow negative interactions with other family members affect your tone of voice when training your puppy. Dogs react to the tone of a human voice, so be careful not the be harsh to them without provocation.

If you dog begins displaying negative behavior out of the blue, you should make him an appointment to go and see the vet to rule out any illnesses that could cause the behavior. Your dog might be acting out because he is suffering. Because they cannot speak to let us know there is a problem, this is how they alert us to the fact that they require extra attention.

Start your dog off on the right foot by installing good habits early on. It is easier to instill good habits than it is to deal with bad ones. Giving your dog scraps from the table is just training the dog that begging gets results, so don’t do it!
