For many dogs this will likely train them that catching the thing they're chasing is NOT a good thing. Note – this does not work for all dogs. Some will simply become angry at the water bottle.

Some people will try extreme measures to stop dog chasing – using electric fences, shock collars, or other methods to help keep a dog in check. These are not acceptable for several reasons. They are cruel to begin with, and they’re not necessarily effective. If your dog really won't stop his chasing behavior, think about bringing in a pro to help you.
